A New Site for Wisconsin Poets

He was crippled in a fall several years ago and suffered a stroke in 2023. Your support will help cover costs of this site and provide more frequent updates.
Wisconsin Poetry and Writing Groups.
The current Wisconsin State Poet Laureate is
Margaret Rozga.
Margaret earned her BA at Alverno College and an MA and PhD in English at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee. She is an emeritus professor of English at the University of Wisconsin–Waukesha and continues to teach a poetry workshop for Continuing Education at what is now the UWM–Waukesha campus. The Wisconsin Arts Board supports Wisconsin writers, artists and educators through grant programs and resources. Please see the link above for details.
** The Wisconsin Fellowship of Poets** is open to all Wisconsin poets, from beginners to published authors. The group provides conferences, poetry contests and resources for Wisconsin poets. Membership is $30.00 per year for adults. The Fall 2020 conference for the group has been post phoned. Please see site for updates and contact information.
For the past several years, thousands of Wisconsin high school students have participated in the Poetry Out Loud State recitation competitions, sponsored by the Wisconsin Arts Board and the National Endowment for the Arts.
Your high school is invited to participate.
Poetry Out Loud is a wonderful program for students. The program helps the develop Stage and speaking skills, confidence and a love of poetry. Poetry really needs to be spoken to truly be enjoyed. Poetry Slams are events in which adults and students read and perform poetry for awards and prizes. There are many local events and even a National competition. Check with your local poetry group for the nearest Slam event and Slam schedules. (The above link is for one of the Milwaukee Poetry Slams, one of many in the State).
You are invited to join the Meade Public Library Poetry Circle. The group holds meetings in the Meade Public Library and has recently announced that meetings have resumed, with the use of face masks by member. The address for the library is: Mead Public Library,710 N. 8 Street,,Sheboygan, WI 53081
The Wisconsin Writers Association provides support and resources for Wisconsin Writers of all genres. They also provide writing contests and conferences in many Wisconsin cities. For a list of member groups, (and a group near you), please see the link above.
Western Wisconsin Christian Writers was founded in 2,000 to provide support and encouragement to Wisconsin Christian writers of all levels. They hold monthly meetings (when possible) in Eau Claire. Membership dues are $30.00 per year. Please see link above for more information.
The Kenosha Writers’ Guild embraces ‘prose, poetry, plays, and screen writing’. Meetings are free and are held twice a month. At this writing a new meeting site is being searched. Please see group site for updates. Some meetings may currently be via Zoom.
Black River Falls Writing Group is a group in Black River who meet to critique one another and share their writing. Please see link above to apply for membership.
Tuesdays With Story is a group in Madison that supports all genres of writing. The group was formed to encourage members and to provide events for members to participate in. At this time, The Tuesdays With Story writing club is meeting via Zoom. Please see link above for more times and details.

About the author:Steven Robert Heine is an American poet and author. He has spent much of his life supporting poetry projects and events. He is the author of 8 volumes of poetry. In 2011 he was seriously injured in a fall that left him in great pain and almost unable to walk. He suffered a stroke in 2023. Heine receives no disability and relies on a small pension and retirement income. He is no longer able to make public appearances.

Steven Robert Heine is a West Coast poet & author. He has traveled extensively through the United States, including trips to Wisconsin. His family was from Milwaukee, before many members moved to Oregon. He still has many family members in Wisconsin.Heine has spent his life promoting poetry; serving as founder for many poetry contests. He is the author of fifteen books, including poetry, history and his own short auto-biographies. His books can be found on Ebay, Amazon and Amazon Kindle.
Heine was crippled in a fall in 2011 and now makes very few public appearances.
